SMALLMOUTH BASS
The bad-boy of the bass family is a fair
description of the bronze back Smallmouth
Bass.  If there is a black sheep of the bass
family, this guy is it!  He not only hits a lure, he
tries to destroy it and that is just the beginning.

Smallmouth in the current of the river are
strong!  They will go on dramatic runs to the
depths or hurtle themselves out of the water
continuously.  It seems that their goal is either
to get off the hook or to charge the boat and
sink it!

Fishing rocky shorelines on the main river with
pop-r's is intense.  You can switch to senko
style worms rigged wacky style with a Daiichi
bleeding bait hook for even more fish.  Or, how
about the old reliable lipless crankbait like
Strike King's Diamondback lures in
chrome/blue or crawdad colors.  It's not
unusual to catch a smallie only to have him
toss his cookies in the boat and choke out a
big old crawdad ... full belly or not, he still wants
more!

Many days on the river have found catching
one smallie is the key to catching an entire
wolf-pack of bass that are busting as many
minnows that they can.  Such packs of bass
can resemble white bass runs with minnows
leaping out of the water in an attempt to escape
the smallmouth on a killing spree.

For tough fishing days, we also use finesse
worms on shaky head jigs from Provider
Tackle company.  This laid back style may
seem semi boring but the results can be truly
awesome.

These fighters are more fun than watching the
in-laws duke it out over who's the best
NASCAR driver!

You gotta come and catch some!  And wait 'til
you get one over six pounds ... oh son, you are
going to be sore after that fight.

Do you dare try!?!
